Experience Oregon like never before. With your own fish tour guide.
Seriously, a robot fish? Teaming up with our friends at Wieden + Kennedy, we created a campaign for TravelOregon.com. We shot and directed a series of 360° videos, built a custom video player, executed a 5 location, 25 person crew shoot, and of course built the worlds first robotic puppet salmon with renowned creature expert Rick Lazzarini and voiced by comedian James Kirkland.
On trend, just like 3D TV’s, and augmented reality, the technology is still in it’s infancy. We tested various GoPro rigs, the Nokia Ozo and the Jaunt but based on our desire to have a highly detailed image, we ended up going with a custom rig built with Red Dragons, and shooting at 6K because 4K is never enough.
Filming in five locations throughout the great state of Oregon in a 10 day window, was nothing short of a challenge. Our talented crew from Salt Lake, L.A., and Portland pulled it off with a near flawless execution and came back with some amazing cinematography and photography. Post production with large files and a tight 2 week turnaround had our team working frenetically to get from render to edit to fx to color to live spots.
Look at me I’m just a fish. I’m having the best time, so please don’t eat me. Even though I am delish.
As sung by the TO Salmon
Building the world’s first 360˚ VR player that knows where you’re looking was no easy task. Our custom software checked bandwidth, moved seamlessly from flat video and imagery to 360˚ video, and delivered 360˚ content on the fly dynamically, so that you didn’t miss all the imortant things our fishy tour guide had in store for you. You look, we show you the story, oh and there may be an Easter egg or two.
